Tower Street Food Hall comes to Ipswich's Trafalgar House

Penn Commercial is pleased to have helped to grow the leisure amenity in Ipswich town centre with the letting of 1,038 sq m (11,172 sq ft) Trafalgar House – the former Yates's, opposite Tower Ramparts Bus Station – to Sandeep Singh, for a new international food hall, on a 20-year lease. Work is ongoing on the building, and it is hoped that the new ‘Tower Street Food Hall’ will be open before Christmas.

The three-storey building is currently undergoing a £2 million refurbishment, but will retain many of the original features, as Mr. Singh wanted to keep the historic look, with the front of the food counters featuring wooden carvings to give a vintage feel.

The new Food Hall will feature a range of food stalls, two bars and a children’s play area.

On the ground floor, there will be a number of food counters around the outside, selling a range of cuisines, including Italian, Indian, Japanese and American.

On the first floor, there will be more seating and a larger bar area, offering local craft beers, wines and cocktails.

The second floor will feature a banqueting hall, which will be available to hire for wedding celebrations, events, parties and meetings.

Paul Keen of Penn Commercial said:

“It is exciting that Ipswich has been chosen for this innovative venture. We have worked closely with our client and Sandeep, so that this ambitious vision has been able to come to fruition.

“This will be great news for the town. The location is prominent and accessible, opposite the bus station and with a lot of car parks in close proximity.”

Sandeep Singh commented:

"We wanted to have a nice family feel to the ground floor, and we will have a main bar on the first floor, so people can still come upstairs and enjoy it, while keeping an area for families.

"With the second floor, we can set it up for people how they would like and people can have a bigger event, if they wish, due to the amount of space it will have.

"We can host up to 200 people across the first and second floor, while also serving regular customers on the ground floor."

The Tower Street Food Hall has been in the planning for two years, with Mr. Singh liking the look and feel of Trafalgar House, which provides enough floors to create this international dining space.

The new venue is set to create around 75 new jobs for people in the local area.
